«4TH BLOCK» IN VIENNA.
10, September, 2009

Opening
on Thursday-Sept-10, 2009 at 18:30

Exhibition
from Sept-11 to Oct-11, Mon trough Friday between 10:00 and 18:00

There is a retrospective exhibition of «4th Block» collection of posters taking place in Wien now. The grand Opening was on the 10th of September in «IIID space» gallery. Posters will bring visual joy for audience almost whole month. On the 11th of September 2009, the next day if to be precise, Oleg Veklenko had a lecture and showed his famous photos. All this become reality thanks to the efforts of Dominik Hruza (organizer), Serhij Mishakin, Tania Borzunova, Mariczka Ruban (co- operation partners) with the support of Association «Design Austria» and the financial aid of the Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture.

Information frorm: http://www.4block.org/en/

irectly following the nuclear meltdown and the explosion at the 4th Block reactor in Chernobyl on April 26, 1986, the former Soviet Union mobilized tens of thousands of reservists – for the most part young soldiers – to contain the fi re and clean up the debris.

These helpers, so-called liquidators, constructed a provisional concrete encasement around the reactor that was intended to prevent additional radioactive material from getting out. Within the fi rst few days, approximately 1,000 of the helpers were exposed to extremely high and often deadly levels of radiation. A cloud of nuclear fallout spread across large parts of Europe, eventually covering the entire Northern hemisphere. Five years later, after the Soviet empire had already collapsed and Ukraine was already on its way to independence, Oleg Veklenko, together with Valerij Sleta, Sergey Mirnij, Viacheslav Olenin and Alexander Bendus organized the fi rst international poster exhibition entitled 4th Block. All of the founding members had been liquidators in Chernobyl and the exhibition was designed to pay tribute to those who had died or who had been crippled by the catastrophe in Chernobyl. After this fi rst exhibition, the International Triennial of Ecoposters (Ukraine) was established, which in 2009 took place for the 7th time.

The best works from this year and from the previous competitions will be shown for the fi rst time in Vienna between September 10 and October 11, 2009. One of the goals of this exhibition is to think about the disaster in Chernobyl but not as a past event or a problem unique to the waning Soviet empire, but rather to understand the global implications of ecological questions for our future.

City Floating Poster Exhibition
Opening.
19, January, 2009

City Floating Poster Exhibition opening at Chungshan Hall in Taipei.

Taipei Zhongshon Hall 2F, Fortress Cafe, +886-2-2381-9551
No.98, Yanping S. Rd., Zhongzheng District, Taipei City 100, Taiwan (11:00AM-23:00PM)

Introduction to Chungshan Hall:
Chungshan Hall has always been one of the formal reception area for welcoming foreign guest of honors, including: former US president Richard Nixon, former Korean President Lee Chen-Wine, former Viennese President Wu Tien Yeng, former Philippines President Chiasia among presidents or sovereigns of other distinguished countries. Chungshan Hall has also hosted memorial ceremonies such as the signing of the Sino-US Taiwan Mutual Defense Treaty and the formal inauguration ceremonies of the second, third and forth presidency and Vice-Presidency of the Republic of China. The historical value that is embedded within each stone and every brick of Chungshan Hall inevitably draws special attention toward its preservation as the Internal Ministry Department legitimizes Chungshan Hall under the shield of Relics Protection Act as a major national cultural monument in 1992.
